A campaign has begun to save a stunning Georgian house at 76 Dean Street in

Soho, which was damaged by a fire last year.

Built circa 1730, the house was a building of significant importance to the

area of Soho as well as an integral part of Georgian London. The first occupant

of the building was the 7th Earl of Abercorn and has seen its use

vary greatly in its lifetime, including being rented by the Church to home

children removed from the workhouses. The majority of the interior was intact

prior to the fire and now property’s current owners and English Heritage to

decide on what should happen to the property, as many of the beautiful pieces

that were salvaged from the fire are now being left to deteriorate.

Calls for a private bidder to come forward and purchase the property have

begun in earnest and the hope is that someone with the means and inclination

will look upon the property favourably and help to restore it to its former

glory.
