The date of the general election

has now been set for the May 6, the very same day as the local government elections

as expected.

The prime minister met with the

Queen at Buckingham Palace to seek the dissolution of Parliament and later made

the announcement yesterday outside Downing Street.

It appears Gordon Brown has paved the

way for a hung parliament after agreeing to delay the return of MPs to the

Commons for 12 days after the General Election.

The move was seen by some as a

tacit admission by the Prime Minister that his party cannot win outright the 6

May vote.

Candidates for the newly-created

Westminster North constituency include: Karen Buck MP (Labour); Joanne Cash

(Conservative); Mark Blackburn (Liberal Democrats); Tristan Smith (Green).

For the Cities of London and

Westminster constituency, the following candidates are standing: Mark Field MP

(Conservative), Dave Rowntree (Labour); Naomi Smith (Liberal Democrats) and Dr

Derek Chase (Green).

You can find more details about

how to vote on the Westminster Council website with notice of planned polling

station locations to be published on Tuesday April 27.
