Well, it’s finally arrived! Election Day us here! For many

people in Soho you will be planning a visit to a local polling station to cast

your vote, but just how predictable will Soho be in its choice? I went on the

streets to ask people what they thought were the major issue affecting Soho and

its inhabitants;

Ryan, 32

“I would like to see

whoever gets elected to do more about the drug problems in the area – I know

most inner city areas have the same problem, but it’s not nice having users and

dealers hanging around outside my flat at all hours, I’d like to see more done

to get rid of them.”

Ian, 28

“I don’t live in Soho,

but I work here and I socialise here often too. I personally would like more

money spent on cleaning the streets – every morning the streets smell and are

greasy, particularly around Chinatown. They should stop the restaurants from

slopping out onto the streets.”

Anya, 43

“I think the entire

council needs a shakeup. All I seem to keep reading about Westminster Council

are stories about corruption and dodgy dealings and it makes you wonder why

nothing is being done to stop this?”

 Alex, 36

“I would like the

council to stop charging so much for parking – I work in the area as a courier

and I come in and out of Soho 3 or 4 times a day and it costs my company so

much just to park for a matter of minutes while I drop off a parcel. I know it’s

difficult in Soho, cos there are so few places to park, but I really thing the

council is just trying to make money at the end of the day.”

These are just a handful of views and opinions from the

people who live, work and play in Soho that I spoke to yesterday and many may

have some resonance with you as they do with me. So who is on the path to

Parliament? Who would you like to see as MP for the Cities of London and Westminster?

Why do you think they would do a good job? Perhaps you have no confidence in

any of the candidates at all and are choosing not to vote? Whatever you think,

join in the debate and watch this space for election news for Soho as it comes

in!
