All-women business brings the beat to the capital
A group of mums, who have
set up an original type of dance and exercise class for busy adults missing the
days of the dance floor, is opening classes in London and holding training
sessions at the world-famous Pineapple Studios.
Popdance, the brainchild of former marketer and mum-of-two Sue Wybrow, 39,
teaches professionally-choreographed routines to classic pop tunes from the 80s
through to the noughties; by artists such as Madonna, Kylie and Michael
Jackson, Lady Ga Ga and Beyonce.
Since launching in St Albans, the classes have proved popular and the Popdance
team is keen to recruit teachers from around the city, with its first training
session for new teachers to be held on Friday 1st April, from 11am-1pm.
Sue said: “We started Popdance as a form of healthy escape from the
demands of work and children. It’s a fun, relaxed atmosphere where the emphasis
is on dancing around and having fun, but at the same time it tones you up,
gives a cardiovascular workout and lifts your mood as we really do have a
laugh.”
She added: “We have Popdancers say they always leave the classes with a big
grin on their faces and a lot of them have lost weight without even realising
it. On top of this you learn a new skill while being social.”
The classes are taught by trained, experienced dance and fitness teachers and
are open to adults of all ages and abilities. Popdance is now touring the UK
looking for dance and fitness teachers to run more classes to make them
available to more people around the country.
It costs from just 150 pounds to attend a Popdance Training Session and
following completion, teachers can run as many classes as they want, including
choosing their most convenient location.
The team is looking for passionate, dedicated dance and fitness teachers and
who have experience of teaching a mixture of adult age groups. The emphasis is
very much on creating an enjoyable class and building a great rapport with the
Popdancers.
The training will be at the Pineapple Studios, Studio 10, 7 Langley Street,
Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JA.
