How affordable is it to rent in Soho these days?

With social housing a rare commodity in London, let alone
-
Soho: home sweet home!
Soho, the alternative for many is to rent privately. As in much of London,
private renting is often incredibly expensive and prices many people who work
in the capital, out of London entirely, seeking more affordable accommodation
in the suburbs and towns surrounding London. Perhaps you are looking for a
larger home to rent in Soho or maybe you would like to live in Soho, but never
thought it would be affordable? I took a look at some rental properties
currently on the market and see how the rental market is shaping up right now.
Studio apartments and bedsits are generally the norm in
Soho, given that space is at such a premium. The cheapest I could find on the
market was a double room with its own kitchen and shared bathroom facilities
for £200pw on Old Compton Street with Outlet, all the way up to £350pw
for a decidedly more presentable studio
apartment on Lexington Street with own kitchen and separate bathroom with EA Shaw.
Sadly these prices alienate many people from renting in the area and
families would be at an even greater disadvantage with a three bedroom flat on
Great Marlborough Street for example, costing £850pw through Greaterlondonproperties.co.uk
or this beautiful, but extravagantly expensive 3 bed mews house on Colville
Place with Hallmark Estates at £1300pw.
So how do you find living in Soho? Do you have subsidised
rent maybe or struggle to afford the costs of private rent? I’d love to hear
how people manage in Soho and why you choose to call unique square mile home.
For those of you that have a couple of million at your disposal,
I’ll leave you with this stunning, loft style apartment on Dean Street with
Foxtons to ponder over at a cool 2.5 million. For those of us who do not have a
bank balance to rival Roman Abramovich’s, I’ll leave you to dream along with me!
