I went to Maison Bertaux last night with my friend after work as we thought we'd do something other than go to the pub and it was well worth it.
Fantastically shabby chic, i.e. definitely a French cafe feeling. The service was prompt and friendly and both the Plum & Almond cake that I had and the Chocolate Mousse that my friend had were fantastic. Not overly sweet & very well made. The tea was unfortunately rather weak which was a shame but apart from that it was great.
Noel Fielding has an exhibition of his work there this year including a couple of installation pieces and numerous paintings.
The video installation is a must see - We love the Jelly Fox! His style is quite naive and a bit Magritte/ Rousseau -ish so it's very playful and highly enjoyable. Now I just have to save up the old bonuses to buy a couple of pieces!!
Go there, this is a Soho gem!
