The scramble for university places has begun. For students all over London and the rest of the UK, the wait for A Level grades is finally over with thousands of young adults receiving their long-awaited results.

One student from St Marylebone C of E School in Marylebone tweeted this morning "Nearly crying on the train cos I'm so anxious" on her way to get her results, whilst another tweeted that she had got into her chosen university as was "so relieved and happy".

Many universities have raised their entry standards as demand for places soar. This is largely in response to the university fees rise set for 2012, deterring many students from deferring for a gap year, opting instead to start their chosen courses before the fee increase. The UCAS site crashed for three hours today as traffic quadrupled with the demand, but thousands could still miss out on not only their university place of choice, but a place at all.

A quarter of all A-level papers were awarded at least an A - the same number as in 2010, whilst boys closed the gap with girls, with 8.2 per cent of male students being awarded an A grade.

There is no doubt that these are trying times for young adults today, with all that has hit the UK in the past months, but despite all this, it is good to see that the vast majority of young people out there are working hard to build a better future for themselves and hopefully Britain too. Congratulations to you all!
